What is the DPS?
The West Montreal Readaptation Centre (WMRC) Department of Professional Services (DPS) exists to provide the centre's client services* with guidelines on best practices in the field of intellectual disability (ID) and pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), and to support client services in their implementation of those practices.
This centralization of professionals:
- ensures that WMRC, as an establishment, can support the development of second-line health services for its users;
- assists the establishment in the recruitment of professionals and students;
- provides a core group to support teaching and learning; and
- supports WMRC's goal of acquiring research institute status.
The DPS supports the establishment in its quest for excellence and best practices. It also drives knowledge transfer and dissemination, bringing research and practice closer to front-line staff. It helps to define specialized services within the establishment, and provides guidelines and training to enhance staff competencies
Finally, the DPS' risk-management program assists WMRC in identifying strengths and weaknesses, and informs program development.
