Research chair for Intellectual Disability and Challenging Behaviours at UQAM

The research chair for Intellectual Disability and Challenging Behaviours was instituted in October 2008 as part of the Université du Québec à Montréal's humanities and social sciences faculty.

This chair was created through funding and co-operation by West Montreal Readaptation Centre and Montreal Island's four other CRDITEDs,  as well as the Consortium de recherche sur l’intégration sociale (CNRIS) and the Fondation des Services de réadaptation L’Intégrale.

The team and its mission

Chairholder Diane Morin, a professor with the UQAM psychology department, oversees experienced researchers from diverse disciplines, universities and clinical environments.

They collaborate with a view to developing a deeper understanding of challenging behaviours associated with intellectual disability and identifying advanced practices through research, training and knowledge transfer activities.

More specifically, the chair's team contributes to:
  • developing research into evaluating  challenging behaviours and interventions targeted at people with intellectual disabilities;
  • improving practice through systematic empirical studies applied to clinically relevant issues;
  • exchanging knowledge and information about challenging behaviours between clinical and research environments;
  • training students specialized in the area of intellectual disability and pervasive developmental disorders.
