Selection process

Managing a residential resource is a privilege.

Undergoing the candidate evaluation process is a commitment as serious as actually becoming a residential resource.

The process involves three stages:

  1. Pre-selection meetings
  2. Evaluation interviews (approx. 12 hours total)
  3. Decision process

1. Pre-selection meetings
Pre-selection meetings begin with a telephone conversation. You will be asked questions regarding your motivations, your experience, your training, your general plan, your current life situation and other relevant information. Subsequent meetings should include a meeting at West Montreal Readaptation Centre offices and a meeting at your home. A resource supervisor will accompany to ensure that your plan corresponds to users' needs. Finally, if the pre-selection process is successful, the process may advance to the next stage.

2. Evaluation interviews
The evaluation process takes place over a minimum of 12 hours of meetings. Typically, each meeting lasts between 1.5 and three hours. It is important to note that WMRC cannot at any time guarantee the candidate's acceptance. A candidate may also withdraw from the process at any time. Throughout the validation process, the evaluator may request a meeting with the secondary candidate or any other person living at the resource.

During the evaluation, several subjects will come up, such as: motivation, education, work and volunteer experience, personal and family history, physical and mental health, individual and group dynamics, reference verification, adult and juvenile criminal background, and finally, an in-depth discussion of your plan.

3.  Decision process
Once the evaluation process is complete, there will be a meeting with the validation team in order to decide on the candidate's service offer. Once the decision is made, WMRC sends a letter to the candidates informing them of their file's status.
