Specialized services:
The role of the CRDI-TED
Quebec's Ministère de la santé et des services sociaux (ministry of health and social services) has outlined that first-line, or general, services are to be provided by local health and social services centres, or CSSS.
Second-line, or specialized, services are to be provided by second-line service providers. Individuals with an intellectual disability (ID), pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) receive second-line services from a CRDI-TED, or Centre de réadaptation en déficience intellectuelle et en troubles envahissants du développement (CRDI-TED). West Montreal Readaptation Centre (WMRC) is one of some 20 CRDI-TEDs across Quebec.
This mandate requires WMRC's Department of Professional Services (DPS) to define the centre's specialized services and provide guidelines and training to enhance staff competencies.
This policy also requires the DPS not only to solidify its existing specialized services, but to concretize new specialized services, such as those for:
- users with an ID or PDD and mental health needs;
- users requiring access to medical services;
- users with multiple disabilities;
- parents with intellectual disabilities.
