McGill Training and HR Development Project
One of the mandates of McGill University’s Training and Human Resources Development Project (THRDP) is to promote the retention of English-speaking professionals in public institutions.
As a partner in THRDP, West Montreal Readaptation Centre (WMRC) has welcomed 80 student interns at its facilities since 2005, in such varied disciplines as social work, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology and educational psychology.
There is a growing demand for services in WMRC’s specialized domain of intellectual disability (ID) and pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) that is increasingly difficult to meet in either official language. The aim of this project is to help WMRC retain more graduating professionals to provide those services, while at the same time introducing students to the exciting field of ID and PDD.
WMRC’s internship program has many public sector partners, and offers students a wide range of supervised clinical experience, as well as additional teaching on-site.
